My blog: hayleyghoover.blogspot.com “It’s everybody, I mean. Everything everybody does is so–I don’t know–not wrong, or even mean, or even stupid, necessarily. But just so tiny and meaningless–and sad-making. And the worst part is, if you go bohemian or something crazy like that, you’re conforming just as much as everybody else, only in a different way.” –Franny and Zooey, JD Salinger

holden? did’nt make it..he was speaking in a narrative from a mental ward…we never knew what happened him. What actually happened him? The book came out in 1951..if you think your teacher did,nt understand well maybe then you read the book correctly..jesus i forgot

  2. boscoesarmy says:

Is it any wonder he wanted privacy..must be so dis-concerting when people pretend to know what you are…

Can’t believe the guy was 91 and yet I was still all devastated and dramatic.

I read that book as a sophomore- it was a refuge for me because i found Holden so relatable. But everyone else in my class would insist that he was a “crazy retarded mental patient”, which just solidified my isolation from my peers. Watching this video reminded me of the downright life-saving help that Salinger offered me. Thank you so much.

How could anybody be 100% sure the “real meaning” of anything missed someone from a video less than one minute long???

The “real meaning” of any book is contained in a person’s interpretation of it. In any literature of reasonable depth I guarantee EVERYONE reading it will miss something. Hayley got a message from this book that was uplifting and supported her. It was a message that she might have missed from a more mature perspective.

Sounds like it’s probably something YOU missed…

  16. awollangk says:

    Very powerful.

Good message and an appropriate homage to J.D. Salinger. Good job.

  18. numbersandnotes says:

I opted not to read Catcher In the Rye when it was a choice for my summer reading in freshman year. I’ve been kind of regretting that lately, and I’ve decided I need to read it as soon as I get the chance.

  19. TheForeignersNetwork says:

    You go hayley.

  20. terrencelol says:

i am absolutely 100% sure that the real meaning behind the catcher in the rye not only evaded your completely ill-equipped 14-year old mind, but also before, after, and during the making of this youtube video.
